Day 1: Rhodes Village, Eastern Cape, South Africa
Today you arrive in Rhodes Village, the gateway to the Southern Drakensberg Mountain Range. You will be met at the Rhodes Hotel by a guide. Your hotel boasts a spacious double bedroom, the ideal place to relax after your long journey. You will meet at 18:00pm for a welcome cocktail in the Rhodes Hotel Bar and a brief overview of the trip before you enjoy a delicious dinner in a local restaurant.
Day 2: Rhodes Village, Eastern Cape, South Africa
After breakfast the avid anglers will get the chance to cast their rods during the orientation by your fly fishing guides. This half day orientation will be followed by an excursion to the upper Bell River for some small stream fishing for wild Rainbow and Brown Trout. This excursion is weather permitting. A delicious on stream lunch is provided daily for anglers.
For non-anglers, you begin exploring the Rhodes Village, a remote village along the South Africa/Lesotho border. This charming and traditional village is well known for its beautiful hand crafted work and local, indigenous art. The roads and trails in and around the village provide the perfect opportunity to stretch your legs and enjoy the fresh mountain air.
As evening approaches, you gather for aperitifs on the terrace of the Rhodes Hotel to watch the spectacular sunset, followed by a traditional South Africa dinner prepared with love by the expert Hotel chef.
Day 3: Rhodes Village, Eastern Cape, South Africa
Today anglers depart at 9:00am for a full and exciting day of fly-fishing in South Africa for Brown and Rainbow Trout on the Bokspruit and Strekspruit Rivers.
Depending on the weather/flow conditions, you might even fish at the Kloppershoek and Bell Rivers. These rivers are also home to some indigenous Yellowfish of the smallmouth and largemouth variety.
For guests not fly-fishing in South Africa, your options include clay pigeon shooting, mountain bike riding or horse back rides in and around the village of Rhodes, or simply relaxing at the Hotel. Tonight you will enjoy a fantastic farewell dinner in the form of a traditional South Africa 'braai' (barbecue).
